Animal Rescue

Today we added 2 photos to our photo gallery (Ella and Bun Buns), 1 In Memoriam (Owen), and links on our Online Resources page & Blogroll for House Rabbit Society - Louisiana.

…and for those who have been waiting our Tent Tunnels, Cubes and Bowls are back in stock!

Well it’s almost springtime and we have many new items available about which we are very excited!

We have lots of wonderful new t-shirts, sweatshirts and cards created for Bunny Lu Adoptions. All of these items feature high quality images from a few different bunny artists such as Kristine Kasheta.
Lop with Slinky
Your purchase of these cards and shirts benefits Bunny Lu Adoptions - a non-profit rescue group founded in 1999 and located in Haymarket, VA. Click here to read more about this organization.

We also have these hand-crafted wood cars that are designed for rabbits and custom-made for The Busy Bunny. A nudge from a rabbit nose will make these cars roll and they will provide many, many hours of safe chewing. Handmade in California, these are a must-have for those lucky, spoiled bunnies out there.
Handcrafted Surfmobile
That is our Candy Girl with the Surfmobile. The Black fluff ball in the background is her mate Eddie. We adopted both of them several years ago from Donna Jensen at the Burrow Inn in South San Francisco.

We have some wonderful new treats from The Bunny Bunch. These items are hopping out of the door quickly since EveryBunny that is AnyBunny has to have them!
Garden Treats
The Bunny Bunch is a non-profit organization down in Chino, CA. Purchasing these products help benefit this organization.
For those of you who read all of the way to the end of this post (retail customers only), if you type ‘Cowabunga’ in the coupon field you will receive a 10% discount off your entire order. Lisa has been bugging me to add The Rabbit Haven to our links page for months now. I always have an excuse (I’m busy, I’m tired, I’m asleep, I’m hungry, we are still rethinking the link page paradigm, my toe hurts, etc) as to why I cannot, but once you go to the site you will understand why it needed to be done. Until we finish rethinking the link page paradigm, I decided to post it on our blog and add it to our Blog-roll.
Speaking of blogs and blog-rolls and link pages, we are getting ready to drop an improved site - minor tweaks as opposed to the overhaul we did last year, but exciting none-the-less.
In the meantime, check out The Rabbit Haven’s site…

We recently received these photos of Ruby. Ruby broke her back in February of 2009 and is being fostered while she is receiving on-going care from Dr. Harvey. Apparently she loves our baskets - so much so that her fosterer has to buy them in bulk! Ruby was rescued by the Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary.

In March we ran a 3 day special and donated the proceeds to The Burrow Inn. We are happy to report that we raised $337.79 for the bunnies at The Burrow Inn. Thank you to all who participated.

Our friends at Friends of Rabbits in Virginia sent us these links.
On a recent episode of Martha Stewart’s show, Martha talked to Marc Morrone about pet rabbits. In their interview, they mention the House Rabbit Society and encourage people not to put bunnies in Easter baskets. At the end of the show she gives chocolate bunnies to everyone in the audience (I’m sorry if I spoiled the ending) ala Make Mine Chocolate.

Hopefully many of you were able to watch Oprah yesterday (Friday April 4, 2008). She did a complete show on the puppy mill industry. It was quite disturbing and very tearful, but I was so glad to see someone with her power and celebritiness (Is that a word?) discuss this topic.

Many of our bunny customers volunteer at and/or are members of rabbit rescues so this may be like preaching to the choir, but I still think we need these reminders. Hopefully watching a show like this will encourage and inspire each of us to start or continue working to make things better for all living beings.

Cute Bunny, Big Responsibility

Think twice before bringing home a live Easter rabbit

By Tania Fardella

Sweet precious faces, deep soulful eyes, unimaginably soft fur: If you’ve ever happened past a pet shop window and been charmed by the enclosure filled with adorable baby bunnies, and envisioned what a perfect Easter gift one of these enchanting creatures would make for your child, think again. It is imperative to know that there is much more to properly caring for a rabbit than meets the eye, and that, contrary to popular belief, rabbits are not necessarily suitable pets for children, and are definitely not good “starter pets.”
